Incarcerated Individuals

For most AHCCCS Medical Assistance programs, whether an incarcerated individual is included in the household for an application depends on their tax filing status. If the incarcerated individual is being claimed by household members as a tax dependent, or is claiming household members as tax dependents, they are included in the AHCCCS Medical Assistance application.

A person responsible for representing the incarcerated minor child must sign the application, unless the minor child is emancipated. The responsible person must be listed on the application, but does not need to be part of the applying household.

The incarcerated minor child's continuous period of eligibility stays active for the remainder of the continuous eligibility period.
